Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire a college admissions consultant?
The landscape of college admissions has changed tremendously–not just in the past decades, but since 2020. As many colleges and universities are becoming increasingly selective, they are also placing greater emphasis on holistic admissions, in which the applicant is considered as a complete individual rather than a set of scores and tests. While holistic review allows new opportunities for students to let their full selves shine, it can also be overwhelming and opaque.
With a college admissions consultant, students and their families get the benefit of an expert–someone who knows the admissions process like the back of their hand. But just as importantly, they gain a partner–someone who will work alongside them towards a common goal.
Why should I choose Katie?
Katie’s dual careers as a college admissions consultant and an author have given her a unique perspective on how we understand our lives–and how they are understood by a reader. Working alongside students to uncover their stories and writing literature for young adults has given Katie rare insight into the ways narratives are shaped, and how they can be shared in the most honest, impactful, and truly original way.
She also knows how difficult–and ultimately rewarding–it can be to create and share deeply personal stories with an unseen audience, and she brings this empathy and understanding with her as she guides students through the college process.
When should I start?
Some students are ready to begin thinking about college admissions as early as 8th grade, and Katie works with these younger students to begin exploring their passions and developing plans for the future.
On the other end of the spectrum, college admissions consulting may not have been on a student’s radar until the summer before 12th grade–or even later. Katie is just as committed to helping these students finish the admissions process with the strongest, most polished application possible.
How do I meet with Katie?
Katie works remotely with clients all across the United States and internationally through Zoom, phone, and email. For students in the San Diego area, Katie also offers in-person appointments in Coronado.
I have special circumstances. Can you help?
Many students have a special circumstance that may have impacted their high school performance, including a school transfer, a serious illness/injury, or a disability. Other students may wonder how to explain a complicated personal situation, such as a suspension or academic probation. No matter the circumstance, Katie can help a student present themselves in the best possible light.
I’m applying to arts school or want to pursue a creative major. Can you help?
Yes! Katie loves working with artists, actors, musicians, writers, and other creatively-focused applicants. As an alum of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Katie has experience on both sides of the artistic review process, and she uses this insight to assist her clients in creating standout portfolios, artist statements, and audition pieces.
Has Katie worked with students from my high school before?
In her nearly fifteen years as a college admissions consultant, Katie has worked with students from many high schools, both public and private, across the United States. You can find a brief list of the schools she has the most experience with here. Whether you see your school on that list or not, Katie would be delighted to work with you!
